Getting Queer is a collaborative project with people who currently identify or have identified as queer that aims to shed light on “queer” through photographs, recorded interviews, writing, and other media.
At a minimum, all participants take part in a recorded interview (currently audio only) and are also photographed before or after the interview session. Getting Queer respects and hopes to demonstrate the ways in which people, identities, and ideas can change. For this reason, there will be more of an ongoing collaboration with participants who are willing and able. This could include submitting written pieces, doing more interviews, or having other photo sessions. All participants also have the ability to share ideas by making contributions to the website.
Some of the basic questions that all participants are asked to answer include things like: What does queer mean to you? What negative/positive experiences have you had from being/identifying as queer? How did you come to identify as queer? How does being/identifying as queer impact other parts of your life?
People are also welcome to become Members on the website to engage in discussions and share thoughts and ideas. Keep in mind that all areas of the site are public and can be seen by anybody.
